Hey guys!

I know, I know.. It's been ages! And I'm soo sorry.

But as some of you know, I'm going to travel around Europe with a friend of mine, all of november.

Therefor I've been kinda bussy planing this trip :(

I spent a couple of days in Berlin (great city by the way) last week and I got some shots which are shown below. Because many of you have already seen these photos from my facebook page, this post will be more of a explaining of the photos, as to camera settings, editing and what not.

So here goes:

Photo 1: This photo is shot with my Canon 5 D Mark II and a 24-70 mm f/2.8 USM L lens

Settings: ISO 100, f/ 3.5 , 27 mm, 1/250.

The sun was very bright, so I went for a low ISO to remove and possible noise. To keep the image fairly bright I chose a big aperture, but this also caused to bottom of the skye to be overexposed. Rookie mistake -.-. 

As for editing I use Lightroom 3.5 which I am very pleased with. For this picture I removed 100% saturation on the building, while increasing contrast and clarity to make the lines going up the building more obvious. For the skye I increased the saturation, because I liked the contrast between the grey and cold building which could be something taken from George Orwell's "1984", and the clear blue skye.

Done and done!

This photo I particularly like. It's of the same building as the previous, I've just taken a few steps to the left and altered the perspective a little. As for editing I removed all saturation at first and thought I was done. Then I looked at the original which were in color, and I noticed the reflection of the building behind me. I thought it would create an interesting contrast, while being a nice feature and added saturation to the reflection. After that I added contrast to the lower left corner of the building, to create a better balance between the lower left and the upper right, which is really bright. All in all I really like this photo.

Settings: Settings: ISO 100, f/ 3.5 , 27 mm, 1/250.

Again same building as before, just a different perspective. I like this photo because the two buildings are perfectly lined up for creating great architectural photography. Also, all of the different reflections from other buildings and elements inside of the glass tower, added a lot of color elements to the photo which I loved. 

Editing: Simply added 2/3 steps of saturation on my camera, and an addition 60% in Lightroom.

Settings: Settings: ISO 1400, f/ 3.5 , 24 mm, 1/50 sec.

Well well well. This I like!
This photo is form the jewish museum in Berlin. The man in the right is my father.
What he is standing on, is a bunch of crying metal faces. The room was very dark and constructed to force you to walk on the faces. When you stepped on the metal it send clinging sounds around the room, with the sound bouncing off of the walls. Because the room was very dark I had to use a much higher ISO than usual, but my 5D handles the noise extremely well.
Also the slow shutter speed adds a bit of blur the the people in the background, but the fairly big aperture causes them to be completely out of focus anyway.

As for editing I made the photo B&W and added a great deal of contrast, especially to my father.
All in all, probably my favorite photo from this trip! :)

Well, hope you could use this for anything, but I certainly enjoyed it.

"The ending of summer" Photos

Hi guys! I know I'm late with the photos which were due last friday, but here they are! I guess I've never been any good with deadlines, but hey! Aren't we all?

For me the ending of summer, has always been that last night where it's still warm enough to be outside.
It's the feeling you have, when you walk home from a party in the middle of the night. Just strolling down the middle of the road which is normally filled with noisy cars, but is now dead silent. In your drunken haze, your thoughts wonder off to strange corners of your mind and maybe you stop for a second to think. You look up in the sky feeling very tiny, overwhelmed by the amount of visible stars.
Or maybe, your drunkenness makes you pause at the traffic lights which you watch for some time.
Green - Yellow - Red. Over and over again.
Finally you wonder home, fanatically trying to walk in a straight line, but the world keeps spinning around you. You blink! Everything freezes for a second and then continues to blur out of proportion.
While walking you are protected by the warm light coming from the street lamps that curves above you, watching your every move.


Next thing you know, you're in your cozy bed and you fall a sleep.

The end of summer :(

The summer in Denmark is slowly ending meaning the end of long days and bright nights.
I know I haven't been updating you all very much, sorry about that, but the last times has been busy and constantly occupied. You can all take this update as a promise: I Frederik Folmer Middelboe promise to challenge my self at least 3 times a month".
Now that it's said, time for some explaining: For the next couple of month, I will try to challenge my self 3 times a month, giving my self assignments or themes to work with.
Please note that I would very much like this to become a mix of my own ideas and YOURS!
Therefore feel free to come up with ideas and themes to shoot. Either post a comment below or send me a message or email @ imagophotos@gmail.com.

FIRST THEME OF AUGUST: The ending of summer

Another summer session - Architecture!

Hey everybody!
Time for a new summer-edition post :)
This time I went out and shot this new restaurant in Farum. The restaurant possessed some really interesting architectural features, so I went for some semi-long exposures and low aperture to catch the colors and light of both the restaurant and the sky.

 

What a Sunset

Soo, the other day my buddy and I were driving around, and he told me about this place where he would go if he was feeling stressed or down. So we drove to this hill top, just in time for the sunset. The place was magical and I felt extremely inspired. I started shooting instantly, using the long exposures to capture the colors of the ongoing sunset. A sunset in it's simplicity will be boring on the long run, so I tried to experiment with the corn and the lightning. Here are the final results!

Say hello to my third line of self portraits! This time more artistic-kind-of-photos than earlier :)
So..why the tie, why the colors, why the outfit, why the pose?
The sad truth is that I don't know. Maybe I just thought it looked cool or maybe it actually means something to me. Of course there is an idea or a thought behind my photos, and feel free to try and grasp it. If you succeed, then tell me - because I'm dying to know.

Inspiration!

Yay! I've been hit by a sudden burst of inspiration and I'm already working on my new self portraits!
Also, I've been working on different ways to display the theme: Summer. For example, I'm gonna try at shoot a strawberry in the second it hits the surface of a bowl of milk! It's going to be a lot of work, but I think its gonna be awesome!
Can't wait to get out and shoot tomorrow - its gonna be great :)!

Another thing: I really wanna try and use a model for some of the ideas I had in mind, so it's not just all self-portraits. Only thing is, it HAS to be a guy - otherwise the pictures wont make any sense.
